Once upon a time, there was a girl who wanted, more than anything, to be loved. She cried in front of her mirror, telling it she would do anything to be loved. Then the mirror spoke, “I can make you loved. I only require one thing in return; your heart.” The girl, desperate to be loved and tired of loving with no one to love, agreed.
The next day, the girl found that everywhere she went people smiled at her, held open doors, and offered her help. She was glad she had made the deal with the mirror.
Before long, the girl had many admirers, and she indulged herself with many new friends and many romantic dates. Despite all the people loving her, she was not able to love them back.
Until she met him. Finally, she found someone that not only made her feel loved but that she wanted to love in return. But without her heart, she could not.
The girl returned to the mirror and told the mirror she had found someone to whom she wanted to give her heart. The mirror reminded her of their deal and said that if the mirror gave back her heart, she would no longer be loved. But the girl felt sure that this love was real and she needed only to love him back. The mirror returned her heart.
Having her heart back was a heavy weight. The world was no longer such a kind place. Despite this, she was determined to find the one she loved so she could give him her heart and finally be loved and love in return. But she could not find him. She searched and searched but found once again that no one loved her.
She returned to the mirror, unsure what to do. When she gave love no one loved her but when she felt loved she could not love back. Holding her heart in her hands, she looked at her reflection and felt something new. She felt love and she felt loved. It was inside herself all along; she had only needed to hold her own heart and love herself.
